What would you do if you lost it?
Like, really, lost it?
American Beat Generation poet and pioneer Allen Ginsberg often carried a
black box around with him. Inside he kept poems he was working on, books,
incense, and other “necessary” possessions.
At one point, Buddhist monk and counterculture figure Chogyam Trungpa asked
him: “What would you do if you lost it?” …which, became the title of a poem
Ginsberg wrote. (I recommend looking it up online, there is a great 1973 recording out there of Allen reading the poem as fellow Beat-genius Gregory Corso heckles him from the audience).
But, right here, right now, in 2022…What if YOU “Lost it?”
Think of 3 things that you hold dear. What are YOUR “necessary” objects,
physical things or pieces of emotional identity, that you could never “be” without?
Maybe they bring you comfort, maybe they were hard-earned, maybe they help define you
or have helped you in times of need or crisis
