Sunday, May 1 @ 1pm Valley Byliners Author Showcase: Writers Who Care: A Poetry Reading Presented by Mark Esperanza, Ana Aguirre Cavazos, Jamed Arnold, & Frank Cortazo

The Valley Byliners present their poets to the Valley International Poetry Festival. Listen to poetry that showcases our value in family, community, and compassion.
Learn about this history behind our organization, and how our motto, “Writers Who Care”, has been the guiding factor in everything we do: past, present, and future.

Mark Esperanza, MFA, is a writer from Edcouch-Elsa of the Rio Grande Valley. He currently lives in Edinburg, TX, and teaches English at PSJA Early College High School.

Ana Aguirre Cavazos is a native of the Rio Grande Valley, born in Los Angeles, California to humble migrant parents. As an educator and librarian, she developed a love of literature and poetry, but losing her mother gave her strength to share her works to help navigate through the anguish. Experiences, Career, Life, and Loss has nurtured the poet coming forth.

James Arnold has worked with the Harlingen Public Library in helping create an adult poetry education program that has prospered for over four years. James has published a book of 174 poems, and he regularly publishes poems in Valley newspapers. He believes in poetry’s ability to bring people together.

Frank Cortazo, was a past president of the Valley Byliners writers group of the Rio Grande Valley. He writes both fiction and poetry. Some of his writings were published in a Valley Byliners anthology, one children’s story published in another anthology and two segments of a story in a newspaper.
