Join us for a reading with Susana H. Case, Aaron Caycedo-Kimura, and Liz Marlow as they read from their award winning chapbooks that speak to different histories of living and surviving in the face of racial or ethnic hate.

Susana H. Case’s Scottish Cafe contains poems, combining history and mathematics exquisitely, based upon the experiences of the mathematicians of the Scottish Café, who lived and worked in Lvov, Poland (now the Ukraine), during a time of brutality and political upheaval.

In Aaron Caycedo-Kimura’s Ubasute, the poet beautifully reflects on his parents’ lives—his father as a boy in an American concentration camp, his mother as a girl surviving the firebombing of Tokyo, as newlyweds, suburban parents, and too soon a dying father, a widow slipping away.

In Liz Marlow’s They Become Stars, voices of victims and perpetrators from the Holocaust (particularly the Łódź Ghetto) come together in precisely detailed persona poems.
